I started drawing as a kid and I loved it. My grandmother was quite the artist and she would encourage me, and show me what she was doing, and I just remember sitting in awe of her work. She had 10 kinds of graphite pencils, pastels, oils, markers, colored pencils and water colors and she knew how to use all of it! She was my first mentor and she really set me up for what I do today.
Now, I have been going back to basics with the recent stay-at-home lifestyle that we have all been living in. I thought it would be a great idea to break out the old paper sketchbook and draw! While I do miss 100’s of levels of history, and layers, and the sheer power of photoshop… this was an amazingly fun way to keep my skills sharp and it was such a blast! I now will continue to draw the old fashioned way for many years to come. It has brought back joy I get out of this type of creating!
I even found a way to make it a special time by incorporating my kids into this drawing time. I drew these Disney characters, that are just a couple of my kids faves, and although I can see plenty of flaws (areas of needed improvement), they absolutely loved them. I have also been spending the time building into my 4-year-old daughter by teaching her how to do what I do! She has got more potential than I ever did at her age, and she absolutely loves it… so Win, Win, Win!
