When my good friend Dave asked me to help him out with a retouching project, I was excited to say yes! When I found out that it was for his youtube channel “Make for Others”, and that he wanted to record our meeting, and that he wanted me to record myself throughout the process of retouching said image… I cringed in fear just a tad. Most photographers and digital artists like to stay behind the camera and the computer at all times. I knew that Dave pushing me out of my comfort zone was a good thing… so, I still agreed!
Recording a bunch of video from all different angles really wasn’t as intimidating as I thought it would be once I finally got everything set up and just started working. I just pretended that I was talking Dave through, what I was doing in Photoshop, over the phone, and also trying to be slightly aware of where the cameras were placed. Then I just sent him all the video files and he did the rest!
Getting a chance to use my creative skills and grow them in a completely different direction was both exciting and rewarding in many ways. I love to see how someone else creates and try to learn from them as much as possible and at the same time get to contribute to a project with the skill set that I am already comfortable in. Win Win!
Working with Dave on this project was so much fun and seeing the end result of this video and how it came together gives me a fresh creative drive and pushes me to become a better, even more well rounded, artist! I thank Dave for pushing me out of my comfort zone and I hope that you will enjoy the video.
